Is doing job better or business?

What makes business better than a job, and what happens when you take that leap of faith, stop working for the big man, and start working for yourself?

Let's get started

  1. There is a fixed pay, which is usually good. You can earn good money and there is a 100% guarantee that you will get a paycheck (as long as you are good at your skills). You won’t be able to buy the jets, but you won’t be riding the subway either.
  2. Responsibility is limited only to your task. If you are a coder, you have the responsibility to maintain/develop the code you are responsible for. You don’t have to care about the company financials, marketing, sales, HR, etc
  3. You get to finish your work at 5PM (some companies do make you work overtime, but it’s nowhere as hectic as compared to running a company).
  4. You get to enjoy and take out time for leisure. You get to Netflix and Chill. You will probably not become famous like Zuck or Bezos but you will live a good life.

  1. There is no fixed return. A small number of people end up becoming millionaires/billionaires while others just end up wasting their time, energy, and money - going back to a job.
  2. Assuming everything works out fine (not applicable for 90%+ companies). There is at least a 5-10 year time investment before you sell your company or list it on the market and make the millions.
  3. These 5–10 years are years of immense hard work and pain. Only I know how much I have faced in these 2 years - and most of my entrepreneur friends can relate.
  4. You are responsible for all your team members and employees, your customers, your business partners, etc. You are no longer accountable only for your task - you have to ensure that *everything* is fine. Becoming your own “boss” comes with a lot more baggage than you think.
